ATTENTION  REUNION-GOERS!

Please make your 60th Reunion reservations NOW at the Sheraton Annapolis Hotel!

Reasons:

·       The Sheraton has 196 rooms, and early classmates’ hotel intentions (to our Reunion Team) already account for 152 rooms.  We need early data for effective overflow planning.

·       Your preferences (floor, non-smoking, bed, etc.) tend to be more available for early reservations.

·       Reservations are no-cost.  Deposits are not charged in advance of check-in.

·       Reservations are not binding.  They may be cancelled without charge until 6:PM the day before arrival.  [However, Class of 1950 may be charged if large numbers of last-minute cancellations drop our total room usage below contract minimums…SO KEEP OUR REUNION TEAM INFORMED – IMMEDIATELY! – IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND.]

·       It will help the Sheraton in planning for our 60th Reunion !

     ·       It will IMMENSELY help our Reunion Team in planning for you!

Class of 1950 Hotel Payment Policy

As at past Class of 1950 reunions, the policy for our 60th Reunion is that individual classmates will make their own hotel reservations, will secure these reservations by check or personal credit card, and will pay their hotel bill on completion of stay.

Helpful Reunion Information

Reunion dates are April 22–25.  It is strongly recommended that you arrive on Thursday, April 22, because Friday has a full schedule, starting early.  If you intend to visit the Midshipmen’s Store, Thursday is the best day (it’s not open on weekends, and you’ll be quite busy on Friday).  The Midshipmen’s Store closes at 4 PM .  The first scheduled Reunion event is the Thursday cocktail party at 5:30 PM in the Sheraton.

The last Reunion event on Sunday, April 25, is the Harbor Luncheon Cruise.

How to Make Sheraton Reservations

Call Toll free: 1-888-627-8980 or Local: 1-410-266-3131.   Ask for Reservations.  Tell them you’re with “ USNA Class of 1950 .”  Our special room rate is $169 (plus tax) per night (1 or 2 persons).  This is $20 less per night than estimated in our 2007 contract.

Dear Jack,

Please post this latest status of the Class of  '50 60th reunion on the web site.

We have a contract with the Sheraton Hotel just on the northside of route 50 in Annapolis. It has been a protracted 4 months getting approval for our reunion schedule through the Alumni Association but they have sent it to the Supe's office where it will take a few months for review and hopefully final approval. Pending receipt of that approval, we have not sent out any forms and will not be doing so asking you to commit to activities and to send funds for your selections.

The same applies to the reservation for the hotel.

Based on the foregoing, disregard the reported status in the latest July / August Shipmate that is in error.

The process will be a two step arrangement. Each attendee will be solely responsible for making his room reservation with the hotel. I addition, each attendee will receive a form asking for your commitment to activities. That will go to John Henderson our banker / finance officer for the reunion covering overall costs.

Our contract with the hotel requires a firm commitment for rooms that they will block for us. We submitted a number in our contract signing in December 2007. We will have a one-time chance to modify that number at various dates prior to the reunion. Once the final occupancy numbers are presented to  the hotel, we will have to pay for any rooms below the number blocked that are not used. Therefore it cannot be stressed too strongly that your commitment to attend must be made early and be as firm as possible. Although there is some latitude for relief in emergency situations, the class treasury may be held hostage if we do not meet our minimum occupancy.

We will be coming out within a few weeks with one of our 3 USNAAA paid USPS mailings giving you more information.
